Life is like a box of faces

"'When I die,' I said to my friend, 'I'm not going to be embalmed.
I'm going to be dipped.'
Milk chocolate or bittersweet was the immediate concern."

-- Adrianne Marcus

"What you see before you, my friend,
is the result of a lifetime of chocolate."

-- Katharine Hepburn

"Your hand and your mouth agreed many years ago that,
as far as chocolate is concerned,
there is no need to involve your brain."

-- Dave Barry

Today is my 21st wedding anniversary.

Happy Anniversary, D Ray!

I decided to buck tradition and skip the typical brass/nickel gift and go with chocolate instead.

Unlike my husband, who is consistent, rock solid and super dependable, I tend to be a little ... unpredictable.

I'm pretty sure he'd agree that being married to me for 21 years really is like a box of chocolates.

Hell, most days even I don't know what I'm gonna get.

Gee, thanks

"God gave you a gift of 84,600 seconds today.
Have you used one of them to say thank you?"

-- William Arthur Ward

Milk chocolate turkeys 11-28-13

"The turkey, slain, slowly cooked over our gas or electric fires,
is the central figure at our holy feast.
It is the totem animal that brings our tribe together."

-- Tom Robbins, Skinny Legs and All

Happy Thanksgiving!
Or Turkey Day!
Or Tofurkey Day!
Or Hanukkah!

Whatever you call it, happy whatever it is.

*No actual turkeys were harmed in the making of this face.

I'll stop the world and melt with you

We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.   Carter, Jimmy - See more at: http://quotationsbook.com/quote/27523/#sthash.SgotYaDV.dpuf

"Genius is present in every age,
but the men carrying it within them remain benumbed
unless extraordinary events occur
to heat up and melt the mass
so that it flows forth."

-- Denis Diderot

the two surviving
chocolate people
copulate desperately,
losing themselves
in a melting
frenzy of lust ...”

it's the humility."

I turned up the heat on yesterday's chocolate faces and this is what happened.

Nobody knows the truffles I've seen

“I was like a chocolate in a box,
looking well behaved and perfect in place,
all the while harboring a secret center.”

-- Deb Caletti, Honey, Baby, Sweetheart

But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!”

Someone recently gave me a box of five chocolate faces.
In the box they looked identical and factory made.
In the box they looked dull and waxy and dead and more than a little spooky and weird.
But through the camera, they became amazingly lifelike.
The sheen on the chocolate became remarkably like the sheen of oil on skin.
Through the camera, the blank faces took on individual characteristics.
Through the camera, they looked as though they might possibly have souls and thoughts and worries and concerns and dreams and disappointments and hopes and troubles inside, instead of gooey centers.
Some looked pensive. Some looked peaceful.
Some looked wary. Some looked aloof.
Some looked masculine. Some looked feminine.

That is a lot to attribute to candy, I know.
But if any candy can stand up to being that heavily anthropomorphized,  it would probably be chocolate.
Tune in tomorrow and see how well they can stand up to the heat.

Hoppy Ears-ter!

Chocolate bunnies 3-31-13
Our sweet neighbor Vera gave the boys Dove solid chocolate rabbits for Easter, and they still hadn't eaten the Dove solid chocolate rabbits she'd given them last year.

Like ravenous animals, these same boys, as if they haven't eaten in weeks, will devour two full racks of baby back ribs for dinner tonight. But a couple of chocolate rabbits? They'll leave those languishing in the back of a drawer for an entire year, as if they're made of poo rather then creamy, dreamy, solid Dove chocolate.

Boys.

So I decided to execute the old bunnies and re-purposed them as chocolate chunk cookies. But not before I made them model for today's face -- er, faces. Enjoy.
